Emigration. Mr. Batman proceeded on Sunday last in the sloop Rebecca, from Launceston to Port Phillip, or Western Port, with
the first part of his expedition, to form an establishment on that part of
the continent of New Holland. He takes with him seven natives and three English servants, eleven in
all. He proposes to purchase from the Chiefs of that part of the country
such a territory as he may require, of which he will himself become the
Chief, with the best of all possible titles, that of the real proprietor, he
returns for his family, Mrs. Batman and six daughters, as soon as he is
established. We sincerely wish him every success. |
