Flood at Gundaroo

Empire, Sydney

2 July 1852

A correspondent, dating Gundaroo, June 25th, 1852, writes as follows:-

"After several days heavy rain, on Wednesday last, the Gundaroo River rose to an unusual height, the following day the tumultuous current increased to an alarming extent, spreading over the cultivation paddocks and carrying away the fences, and from many farms a large quantity of wheat.

The loss and inconvenience to the settlers for many miles down the river is very considerable.

On Saturday the weather cleared up, and on Sunday the mail which was due on Thursday crossed the river."
