Henry Hilton, Testimonial The Gundagai
Times and Tumut, Adelong and Murrumbidgee District Advertiser 31 July 1875 |
On Wednesday evening last a number of gentlemen met at the Commercial
Hotel, to present Mr. Henry Hilton with the testimonial in recognition of his
long and faithful services as postmaster we alluded to in a former issue. Mr. E. G. Brown, as chairman, having read an address on behalf of the
subscribers thereto, and then handing to Mr Hilton
a substantial token of their esteem, viz., about £30, in eulogistic terms
referred to the good service which this gentleman has for years past rendered
to the community in his character of postmaster. Mr. Hilton in a few feeling words gracefully returned his
acknowledgments to the friends who had shewn him
such marked kindness, and Mr. L. Mandelson, in
proposing a vote of thanks to the chairman, paid Mr. Brown some
well merited compliments, which Mr. Tuohy, who
seconded the rote, cordially endorsed. |
