Hovell, Letter to Herald The Sydney Morning
Herald 1 July 1871 |
To
The Editor of The Herald. Sir,-
I notice in your paper of Tuesday, 27th, in the "Reminiscenses
of the Past," that the first overland trip from Sydney to Port Phillip
was made by Mr. Hamilton Hume and Mr. Hovell in the year 1827. This
is a mistake, as it was in the months of October, 1824, and January
following. Again, with reference to the brig Trial – the longboat was found
in Trial Bay, New South Wales. A reference to "Oxley's Journal,"
now in the Sydney Public Library, will, I dare say, give full particulars. I am, Sir, your obedient servant, William. H. Hovell. Goulburn, 29th June |
