Navigation of the River Murray South
Australian Register 18 January 1853 |
In the last advices received from Capt. Cadell,
at Sydney, and dated the 28th December, it is stated that the machinery for
the steamer cannot be entirely finished before the month of February. The boat is also reported to be much larger and more powerful than
originally intended, and will certainly equal, if not surpass, the
expectations of the Local Government and the public of South Australia. Capt.
Cadell has visited Albury, and is certainly of
opinion that when the floods are up the steamers will be able to reach that
town, the inhabitants of which look forward to the event with eagerness. Gundagai on the Murrumbidgee will also be accessible, in Capt. Cadell's opinion, at the most important season of the
year. He expects to be on the River before it falls. |
