At the
public meeting held at the Municipal Council on Monday night, the Mayor (Ald.
A.E. Wilkinson) presiding, for the purpose of taking steps to
fittingly welcome Pte Jack Ryan, V.C., son of Mr and Mrs Michael Ryan, on his
return from the war, it was decided to ask the returned soldiers, cadets,
patriotic organisations, public bodies, school children, etc., to join in the
reception and meet the decorated soldier at the railway station upon his
arrival and escort him to the Red Cross rooms, where he will be publicly
welcomed; in the afternoon a procession to march to the Park, where sports
and other amusements for the children take place; and at night a banquet in Pte Ryan's honor will be given in O'Brien's Hall, after
which; a presentation to the V.C. Mr R. L. Blakeney was appointed hon. sec, Mr
C .E. Jepsen treasurer; a committee consisting of
the Reception Committee and Red Cross (with power to add); and a
sub-committee to arrange the details consisting of the Mayor, secretary,
treasurer, H. F. Ferris and O. C. Redford. Three
complimentary tickets to be sent to reception committees in Batlow, Adelong and Gundagai for representatives to attend. |
