A shocking shooting accident took place at Big Plain, in the Narrandera district, on Friday. A son of Mr. W. J. M'Kay asked a son of Mr.
G. Gilbert (who is caretaker of M'Kay's father's
property) to bring a rifle from the kitchen to shoot a rabbit. While the weapon was being brought out it exploded, and the bullet
entered the head of Gilbert's brother, aged 8 months, causing instant death.
The (bullet passed through the baby's head and struck his sister, aged about
3 years, who also died. The children were playing on a rug fifty yards from where the pea
rifle exploded. |
