Yass
Centenary. From February 27 to March 5 Yass will celebrate the centenary of
its discovery by Hamilton Hume by a week of carnival and sport. The annual
show will be held in conjunction with the celebrations. An extensive and
varied programme will be carried out, and success
is assured. On
February 27 a wreath will be placed on the grave of Hamilton Hume as a
tribute to the native born explorer, and special services will be held in all
the churches. There will be many historical articles of interest on view,
including Hamilton Hume's bank book and Mrs. Hume's footstool, and other
exhibits over 70 years old. |
